Musk’s Tesla Tumble: Political Ties with Trump Alienate Core EV Buyers, Says Marketing Expert

Date:

Elon Musk’s close alliance with Donald Trump and leadership of the federal Doge department may be costing him more than political capital—it’s destroying one of his flagship brands, Tesla.
Marketing professor Scott Galloway blasted Musk’s political turn on the Pivot podcast, calling it “one of the greatest brand destructions ever.” He cited data showing Tesla’s plummeting reputation and deep losses in European markets, where Musk’s recent political interventions have sparked backlash.
Musk’s $200 million donation to Trump’s campaign and subsequent role in government cost-cutting have alienated progressive and moderate Tesla fans. Despite his announcement to reduce his time with Doge, critics say the damage is already baked in.
