Moscow – Fresh from claiming a 5,000 square kilometer victory in Ukraine this year, President Vladimir Putin has drawn a firm line in the sand for the United States, warning against the supply of Tomahawk missiles.
The territorial claim was presented to his military chiefs as proof that Russia holds the “complete strategic initiative.” This narrative of success is being used to project strength and justify his increasingly hardline stance against Western military aid.
The line in the sand is clear: Putin stated that providing Tomahawks to Ukraine would represent a “qualitatively new stage of escalation” because it would require direct U.S. military involvement. The consequence, he warned, would be the destruction of their relationship.
While Putin focused on missiles and territory, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy highlighted a different form of Russian aggression. He accused Moscow of using its oil tanker fleet for spying and sabotage.
Zelenskyy, however, remained defiant. He assured that Ukraine is collaborating with its partners to put an end to these alleged covert operations, stating with conviction that “it is entirely possible to stop this.”
